THE RRC

(RESPONDER RECOVERY CENTRE)

First Floor Visual.jpg

Brief:
"This project explores a theoretical examination into the nature of site, memory and time, the interior as phenomena; and its relationship to notions of the city and urbanism. The outcomes from this investigative work will be presented as an exhibition of ideas in a range of both traditional and 3D media. Through a self defined direction you will articulate your own brief and the parameters of the design proposal. The selected building must be compatible and accommodate the brief proposal. These two components will be the stimuli to develop the conceptual strategies required for this module, expressing the spirit of the place, through which to draw, make, design and exhibit upon, to project on or from."

Description:

This project ran through the entirety of the final year, starting with the research module. In depth research was needed into what was to be designed and why; the site, the design intention/application and conceptual language. I found that mental health is a massive issue across many different areas of work, especially in first responders such as police officers, ambulance personnel and fire fighters due to the negative stigma surrounding poor mental health in these professions. During this research it was found that Lincolnshire had particularly poor reports of well being in this industry. This became the project’s focus, client and location. Design psychology is also poorly represented in the work place. When used correctly it can help relieve mental illness such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, this became the design focus of the project.

The second module focused on developing the concept determined in the previous module and transferring this language into a design layout. The concept of light, colour and materials is to be portrayed into the design alongside the sense of direction expressing the journey back to a healthy mentality. These are the initial design layouts which are to be developed and finalised, the current design intentions are express through the use of Photoshop visuals, CAD drawings, sketches and 3Ds Studio Max axonometric model.

The final module focused on the technical package, producing orthographic drawing of the final design which included site map, existing building, floor plans, sections, elevations, axonometric, two detailed aspects, a cost up area, lighting plan of the cost up area and  materiality document, it is the biggest technical package produced throughout the course. Throughout this module the final design decisions were made. After the technical drawings were produced the final visuals became the new focus, producing a 3D model, rendered CAD, Photoshop images and interior images for the final hand in and presentation.

The majority of the work in this module was completed without studio facilities during the COVID-19 lockdown period.
