VOYAGE INTO THE WOODS

Brief:
"You are to design a ‘Work, Eat, Refresh’ space for a client who wishes to work independently of their main living space. Your client has sufficient budget to build a 5m x 5m x 5m space and wants you to propose how the space might be organised. You are to imagine that the cube is sitting at the end of their private garden with magnificent south facing views over a landscape of your choice. The cube can receive natural daylight from any of its vertical faces and you might want to consider the possibility of receiving light from overhead. Entry into the cube is up to you; it can be entered through any of the external surfaces."

Description:
Voyage into the woods is conceptual project set at the beginning of my degree, it was designed to reflect a relaxation space for a given client. Picked at random I received a pilot client and a character had to be created. From research the client character was determined as a long haul pilot that uses her spare time to relax and pursue her hobbies of photography and hiking, using this as inspiration for the location the building is placed on the edge of a national park in America which has access to scenic views and a mountainous terrain. Using the structure of the plane as an influence, design aspects such as the cockpit, fold out door and materials are reflected throughout the design.

Conceptual image exploring the design influences from an aeroplane structure.

Materials collage showing the intended textures in the design.

An interior view showing the seating area, raised desk space and the scenic views through the windows and door.
